“Disease Prevention Science Department” newly added to the Division of Life Sciences doctoral program of the Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences

In the field of life sciences, which is seeing rapid development today, pressure is on graduate schools to develop and produce opinion leaders who have both expert knowledge and general skills for handling social demands.
The role of life sciences is growing in the face of various societal problems in Japan and the world. For instance, disease prevention science is expected to offer solutions to the super-aging society and resulting increases in medical costs.
This project is supported by the Tokyo Interdisciplinary Life Science Consortium, a collaboration between Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Ochanomizu University, Kitasato University and Gakushuin University, four universities that are located in the heart of international metropolis Tokyo and that possess complementary characteristics in the field of life sciences. With cooperation from stakeholders such as academic societies, other societies and corporations, the project has established a graduate program with a focus on human resource development in disease prevention science, for which there is a high social demand.
As part of the project, the Disease Prevention Science Department was newly added to the Division of Life Sciences doctoral program of the Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences in AY2013, with classes starting in April 2014.
