27.07.2017 Update
We held our open campus for prospective undergraduates from July 15 to 17, 2017. Over seven thousand entrance exam candidates and their parents visited despite the oppressively hot weather.
Ochanomizu University’s open campus events for all students have traditionally taken place in the Auditorium. This year, to avoid crowding when visitors were moving from venue to venue, we had them gather instead at different venues for explanations about the respective departments, and courses.
Other new features of the open campus event included briefings about the admissions office [AO] entrance examinations and tours of the Ochanomizu University Student Community Commons (SCC). Briefings about the Department of Psychology and Child Studies Course that we plan to introduce during the 2018 academic year received a good response, and overall attendance exceeded our projections.
Staff at the various orientation venues provided briefings on the features of our educational offerings—including our multiple program elective course system and liberal arts education integrating the humanities and sciences—as well as wide-ranging global education, new departments and courses, Ochanomizu University’s distinctive scholarships, residence halls, and diverse entrance exam systems. Sessions about the various faculties, departments, and courses followed. Demonstration lessons, consultations with current university students and lab tours were conducted as part of a well-designed program.
All the programs were well attended, and we received many questions from visitors. Our student assistants—dressed in burgundy (wine red T-shirts—very busy around campus. They also kindly provided information during the various programs.
There were various corners where visitors could ask questions about entrance exams, curricula, acquiring eligibility, and student life. Some areas provided information about the Ochanomizu University SCC, studying abroad, tours of the History Museum, and the University festival (Kiin festival). Visitors tried out the university co-op cafeteria, and there was a booth selling university products. More visitors participated in the event than usual, and most areas were thronged with them.
Ochanomizu University will host an open campus again next year. Information about the event will be posted on the university website once the date and time are decided. We look forward to seeing plenty of people there.
