07.03.2018 Update
Dr. Kimiko Murofushi, president of Ochanomizu University, and Pierre Colliot, cultural counselor at the French Embassy in Japan, signed a BGF Partner agreement for a joint scholarship program on March 1.
BGF is the abbreviation for Bourses du Gouvernement Français—French government-sponsored scholarships for international students. A new kind of French government scholarship, BGF Partner, was established in cooperation between the French Embassy in Japan and Japanese universities in 2017 to provide opportunities for even more outstanding students to study in France thanks to government scholarships.
Starting with President Murofushi attending a gathering at the French Embassy in October 2017 to celebrate the French Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation’s visit to Japan, the university and embassy held repeated conferences and made preparations that led to the agreement and this signing ceremony.
President Murofushi spoke about the long-running interaction between our university and French universities, the appeal France has for Ochanomizu University students as a study abroad destination, and her anticipation that this agreement will encourage students to study in France.
This agreement is expected to be the impetus for stronger ties between the two organizations and even more dynamic interaction with France.
