Fall 2014 specialized intensive course in English
Subject: 労働経済学各論 [14D0714]
Theme: Special Topics in Labor Economics
Lecturers: Elaine McCrate, Nobuko Nagase
Day and Time: [fall intensive] January 5 to 15, Friday 9.0～12.0 (16:40-19:50)
Place: Room 306, Main Building 3rd Floor
Content: 'This course has four goals. The first is to explore how two countries, the United States and Japan, have organized work and family so that people can take care of children and elderly family members while still earning money. We will also explore whether and how these systems contribute to gender equality in the work force. What has worked well and what has not? How have these countries tried to incorporate mothers in the work force, and how well have they succeeded? We will occasionally compare the situation in the US and Japan with that in western Europe. The second goal is to introduce and evaluate some economic theory which seeks to explain why work and family are organized in certain ways. The third goal is for students to think about the implications of all of this for their own future in work and family. The fourth goal is to increase English language proficiency.'
