Lectures in English by a faculty member at the University of Sydney

 As part of the Project for Promotion of Global Human Resource Development, we invite professors from our overseas partner universities to host specialized intensive courses in English. This year, Dr. Masahiro Takatsuka, an associate professor at the University of Sydney will give a "information science special lecture Ⅲ" for the Department of Information Science.

 Prior to the start of the course on Tuesday, February 18, we host an open seminar for students, faculty and staff on February 17. His talk will focus on the state-of-the-art in information science, in a language easy to understand even for those who are not familiar with information science, mixing Japanese and English. Please join us for this opportunity to learn about the state-of-the-art in information science and/or to improve your English skills, and anyone interested is welcome.

   Summary    We all have witnessed rapid progress of networking and

computing technologies, which resulted in the explosion of data being produced and collected. While various computational methods, such as data mining techniques, have been developed, the output of those computational module still need to be communicated to human operators/users, who make the final decision on the subject in question. In this talk, the basics of Information Visualization and examples of User Centered Visualization will be presented.
